Falcon

We are delighted to welcome you to Falcon Class page where you can see what we have been up to in the classroom. We are a mixed year 5 and 6 class. We are taught by Mrs Sager and are supported in our learning by Miss Shaw. We are an enthusiastic and curious class who love learning so take a look at our termly pages to see what we have been up to. Our motto for the year is "Active and Proactive" and we have set ourselves a challenge for the year ahead. We aim to complete at least a part of the daily mile every day. During our planning time on a Tuesday morning, Falcon class will be taught by Mr Tozer

PE

Falcon Class will have PE on Thursday and Friday and should bring their PE kit to school on these days to change in to; however, in order to allow flexibility in the timetable, please ensure PE kits are brought in to school every day or kept at school. P.E. kit consists of black joggers/shorts, a plain T shirt in their house colour and their Paxcroft jumper. Paxcroft hoodies are also available to buy for PE and other outdoor activities.

Reading

I hugely appreciate the support you give your child in their learning and wholeheartedly believe that reading is at the heart of your child's learning. Please find below the recommended reading lists for year 5 and 6 or visit our English Curriculum page for advice on how to support your child further in their reading.

Children have been issued with a green homework diary where they can keep a record of reading or other activities they have done at home. This can also be used to communicate messages. Please record any home learning that your child does: reading, spelling practise, times tables practise in this book so we can award house points as a mark of appreciation.

WB 11.11.24

Year 5/6 have had a busy and varied week. On Monday we commemorated Armistice Day and the children have drafted and decorated war poems to respect this. In English, we have started work on a new book called ‘The Promise’ and have analysed the illustrations and the contrasting endpapers to make predictions about what the actual promise might be. On Wednesday, we had our second R.E. day and we explored the question whether you need to be a religious person or to have faith in order to live a good life. We investigated Humanist beliefs and world view and contrasted this with other world faiths. We were very impressed by the children’s thoughtful questions. In Maths, we have been working on properties of number. This includes tests of divisibility, factors and primes. Finally, we enjoyed exploring the work of local author and illustrator, Mark Robertson.

WB 4.11.24

This week in Year 5/6, in theme  with Remembrance Day we have been writing our own war poems. The children have also been creating effective multimedia pieces of Remembrance art to go alongside. In Maths we have begun our multiplication and division unit, looking at multiples and factors and finding out what it means if they are 'common'. In Topic, we are continuing WW2, by investigating the reliability of information sources about the large-scale evacuation of children. We are looking forward to learning more about Operation Pied Piper next week
