We hope that you have enjoyed a wonderful half term. It is lovely to have the children back in school as we have many adventures planned for them this term. 

Topic

This term, we will be learning all about The Great Fire of London. The children will learn all about the key events of The Great Fire of London, how it started, spread and stopped. They will be exploring different factors and making comparisons to the houses and fire services back then and now. Also, they will learn about what it was like during the fire, from the perspective of Samuel Pepys by reading his diary entries. We will finish the topic at the end of term with a very exciting event!

In English, we will be writing instructions following learning about how to stay safe in the event of a fire. We will be reading the books Vlad and The Great Fire of London by Kate Cunningham and Firecat by Pippa Goodhart and Phillip Hurst. Following these, we will be creating our own exciting diary entries.  

In Maths, we will be covering Addition and Subtraction within 10 for Year 1 and within 100 for Year 2. We will be using different representations such as Part Whole Models, Tens Frames and Bar Models to help us. We will continue to embed our use of sentence stems to articulate our understanding. Alongside this, we will be exploring the properties of 2D and 3D Shapes.
