Year 6 Residential Diary 2024

Day 2: the fun continues...

An action-packed day with loads of brilliant activities, fun stories and awesome memories. Each of our four groups has had 5 activities today so far (we have another set of evening activities after dinner as I’m typing this), so far too much for me to share from each group.

Some brief highlights:

- amazing teamwork from every group I’ve seen going up the crate challenge today, children pulling each other up, coaching each other through every step, actually inspiring.

- some future navigators in canoeing as well as some future scuba divers (all very welcome on a hot day).

- on the climbing challenges, children beating their personal bests and growing in confidence with the support of their peers as well as children who seem faster over tyres/netting/rings than over land!

- lots of excellent food - huge stacks of toast this morning, chicken goujons that everyone enjoyed at lunch and very filling jacket potatoes for dinner.

- brilliant weather!

I have to stop now as a giant banana has arrived to do our evening activity with us (Crazy Olympics!)

Mr George

A quick update from Day 1...

- Walked up Glastonbury Tor in record time and all happy even though it was quite cold in the wind at the top of the hill

- We produced some brilliant sketches of the tower and of the landscape as we looked down from the hill across the countryside; one of our young artists had a group of tourists watching him sketch because they were so impressed!

-We've already had lots of fun on arrival at Mill on the Brue activity centre, including finding out which tent we're in and meeting all of the animals on the site (including some very affectionate cats!)

-Two groups were on the water slide today. They loved speeding down and aiming for the mud. There are some great photos of this!

-One group were climbing on the low ropes and they showed great teamwork, even solving some problems that the instructors had struggled with yesterday

- There was some excellent teamwork from the group doing the crate stack activity today - lots of supporting others who weren’t confident with the next step and generally communicating really well

We've just been down for dinner and now headed off for a campfire, songs and hot chocolate before bedtime
